Deadline to take advantage of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme – 10 June
Last month The Chancellor Rishi Sunak set out details to extend the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) also known as the ‘furlough scheme’ and changes happening to the scheme in the coming months.
So far 8.4 million workers have been placed on furlough with 1 million businesses in the UK taking advantage of the scheme to save jobs.
CJRS extension
The scheme has been extended until October 2020, and employers will be able to bring employees back from furlough part time from 1 July.
Updated guidance on flexible furlough is coming on Friday 12 June.
Deadline to furlough employees
A key deadline for employers to note is that the scheme will close to new entrants on Wednesday 30 June.
But put into practice, the last day to place an employee on furlough for the first time is Wednesday 10 June due to the minimum 3 week period an employee must be furloughed for.
You will not be able to access the CJRS scheme to claim a grant for financial assistance to pay furloughed employees wages if you don't place them on furlough before or on 10 June.
